About Us

Rooted in the Ozarks, Made with Intention

Welcome to The Hairy Gnome — a woman-owned, handcrafted apothecary nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. We believe that the land provides everything we need to heal, and we've built our entire practice around that truth.

Our Story

Every salve and balm we create begins long before it reaches your hands — it starts in the forest, in the meadow, in the quiet work of tending the earth. We harvest medicinal plants using permaculture principles, working with the land rather than taking from it. By observing natural patterns, building healthy soil, and harvesting only what the ecosystem can sustainably offer, we ensure that the plants we use are as potent and pure as nature intended.

The Ozarks are one of the most biodiverse regions in North America, rich with healing botanicals that have been used for generations. We are honored to be stewards of this land and to carry that tradition forward.

Small Batch. Handpoured. Always.

Every product is handpoured in small batches — never mass-produced, never rushed. This means you receive a product made with real attention and care, from harvest to jar. We keep our batches small so we can maintain the quality and integrity that our customers deserve and our plants demand.

Woman Owned & Community Rooted

The Hairy Gnome was founded and is run by a woman who believes deeply in the power of plant medicine, sustainable living, and supporting local ecosystems. We are proud to be a woman-owned small business, and we pour that pride — along with a whole lot of love — into every product we make.
